CHAMPIONS!! CHAMPIONS!! The 3s enjoyed becoming Champions of Junior 1 so much that the Club decided to do it again – and not once but twice!!!
The last day of the season brought more thrills and spills than the Premier League and Sky’s Super Sunday could only dream of!!..
First and in the early 1pm kick off (for television obviously) Dustin Seale’s 4th Team won the Minor Division 1 Title in the most emphatic style by thrashing Old Parkonians 9-1. Goals from Marshall (2) , “Super” Darvill (2, Jono (2), “Pukka” Pies and classy Widget “sealed” the title after being pushed all the way by perennial rivals Old Actonians and a win on the last day was needed and duly arrived in Grove Park with home pitches Tolworth out of action.
Dustin’s team have a had a long, hard and at times frustrating season having lost in extra time in both Cup Semi-Finals but have dug in to win the League for the first ever and this is testimony to a great team spirit and the strength in depth at the Club. They always say that a Club is as strong as its lowest team so for now Nottsborough can be very happy with the overall state of affairs.
Super Saturday then only got better and better as the 1s took on Old Wilsonians, knowing that a win was all they could do to keep the pressure on Winchmore Hill and Old Salesians, both 3 points ahead but with inferior goal difference. The 1s kept their part of the bargain with a hard fought 1-0, not helped by a pretty pedantic referee and all they could do was nervously phone the two other clubhouses... to find that Salesians had lost 2-0 at our old friends and rivals West Wickham and Winchmore had lost 2-1 at home to Broomfield, scoring with 5 minutes to go. Signal... widespread jubilation!!!! A huge well done to Brian, Matt Kerr and the boys for once again sticking to an unbelievable run-in after the heartbreak of losing two Finals... absolutely fantastic!!!! 3 titles in 4 years – this must be the most successful Notts 1s side ever...
The 2s too took their race for their own Title down to the very last Saturday of the season but narrowly failed to make it a unique clean sweep for an SAL club as Actonians pipped them to the post, despite a 3-0 last day win at West Wickham – again a sign of how far Pete Morris’s team have come. The 2s were particularly unlucky being let down in effect by a mad 2 weeks of skiing holidays that saw them lose in the AFA Intermediate Semi Final and to Old Actonians in the League – in the end the crucial defeat - but a win of the Surrey/Kent Intermediate Cup meant that this could be seen as a great season as well..
Reports on the season will come from each of the four Captains (including the all-conquering 3s who only lost two games – including the AFA Junior Final – in over 30 games for the season!) and from the Club’s now legendary and uniquely successful Director of Coaching, Brian Williams, who must be immensely proud of the Club, as is Chairman Jonty Hill and club co-founder Johny Litster. With a new club-house close to completion at Tolworth the future really is very bright and very red and black....

Salesians Show True SAL Spirit
The Club was really pleased to receive the following message from James Ayres of Old Salesians this week – whilst all our games against Salesians are always really competitive and hard-fought affairs, it is brilliant to see them be so generous in what must have been a crushing blow for them on Saturday – so many thanks James and genuinely appreciated...
“Although we are incredibly disappointed to miss out on clinching the championship please pass on my congratulations to the first team and rest of the club on a great success! I am not sure there will ever be such a close finish to the season! Looking forward to starting all over again in September.”
Best wishes, James Ayres, Old Salesians FC

Nottsborough have received terrific recognition from the Southern Amateur League representative selectors for their wonderful season in 2008-2009. Seven of the clubs players have been selected in the Rep side to play Gloucestershire County League on the 19th September at the London Lions F.C. We have never before had so many players selected. The players selected are:
Dan Ashley David Howson Matt Kerr Chris Kerr Matt Negus Nathan Violet Alex Ewin
Nottsborough Coach Brian Williams has been talking about the new signings the club has made over the summer break. “I am very excited by the quality of players we have had joining the club over the last month. At third team level we have recruited 7 new players in Dean Mitic, Patrick Collins, Richard Cheeseman, Steve Molloy, Stephen McMillan, Ben Carder and Joe Taylor. One or two of these will be pushing for the 2’s. At the top of the club we have recruited several good players who will be adding competition to the existing 1’s and 2’s. Mark Shadbolt, Rich Parker, and Kevin Molloy come from a semi-pro background. David Shaw and Dan McEwan are forwards who have also played at a higher level. Crucially we have also been able to bring in a couple of goalkeepers which was a problem position for the 3’s and 4’s last season. We are very hopeful that we can bring in one more good first team player who played for us on a couple of occasions last season as we have lost Danny Marsland and Chris Apaloo for this season. We would like to be in the shake up at all levels.”

New Players Wanted!!!
|
|
|
|
Nottsborough is one of the most successful clubs in Southern Amateur League (SAL) football and has forged a fantastic reputation for good football and a great team/club ethic over the last 20 years since it was formed. But every club needs to re-invent itself so we are having a major push across the Summer of 2010 to find players for all four teams within the Club (and indeed for the over 35 Vets!!). Players looking for a quasi semi-pro experience without the onerous midweek travel should be looking at our first team, whilst University first team players will be very comfortable in either the 1s or 2s. The all-conquering 3s of season 2009/10 are young, quick, committed and have a fantastic team spirit and ditto the 4s who play fantastic football for their level.
All of this is supported by a strong infrastructure, a Director of Coaching who has been with the club for nearly 20 years, a fantastic club-house and training facility at Tolworth (which boasts some of the best pitches in AFA football) and a great social spirit that reflects a commitment to sport, women and beer – what more could a young man want??! If you are interested to find out more then please contact either Matt Beckett at matthew_beckett@westlb.co.uk and/or webmaster@nottsborough.com – and we look forward to welcoming you to the Nottsborough family!!!

3s Get Deserved Cup Final Win at last whilst 1s Falter
Nottsborough 3's became the second club side to win a Cup Final this season in what must have been a very exciting encounter at HSBC Beckenham. We were three nil up at half time but EBOG fought back valiantly to make it 3-3 at full time. However two further goals in extra time from Nottsborough captured the SAL Junior Trophy. The goalscorers were Chris Apaloo 2, Ben Carder, Steve McMillan, and Richard Croft. The 3's have been in great form this season and this win will make up for the defeat in the AFA Junior Final. Now we must make sure we take the SAL Junior League title !
However our record in Cup Finals has not been that great this season and the 1's lost their second Cup Final with a very poor performance against Winchmore Hill. The better team on the day won and we really did not start playing until it was too late. There were many brave words in the changing room before the game but it is actions that count and we did not show a big crowd what we can do. League results are still going our way so if we are up for it we can still have a go at retaining our league title.
The 2's continued their winning run with an excellent 5-1 win at home to Merton. The goals were shared out between George Bowman, Mark Shadbolt, Eamonn Collins, Pete Morris, and Dan McEwan. We are depending on Actonians slipping up in order to retain our title but I am sure it is going to be an exciting finish to the season for the 2's who have already secured the Surrey/Kent Intermediate Cup.
The 4's, who have been looking our banker for a league title this season, disappointingly lost 2-0 at Alexandra Park. They need to get back to winning ways straight away because Actonians can now catch them and another exciting finish looks probable. |

Following on a tradition set by David Bayles 17 years ago, we have always had players good enough to be selected by the AFA.
